Speaking of licenses... I still remember going to the FCC office at 555
Battery Street in San Francisco while in high school to take the exam for
my advanced amateur license. I failed the code receive test the first
time. Passed it the second time. Their in-office paging system used Morse
code to tell people to pick up the phone. Just out of high school, I went
back there again to take the exam for the first class radiotelephone with
ship radar endorsement and got that. This was later changed to the
lifetime general radiotelephone operator's license.
