I've heard the birthplace of cable TV was Mahanoy City, PA. According to
this account, John Walson, a GE appliance retailer, installed an antenna
atop a mountain to receive channels 3, 6, and 10 from Philadelphia, and ran
a cable down to his store on "Main Street" so he could demonstrate the TV
sets in the front window. Prospective customers asked if he could provide a
tap from his line to their homes -- and the rest is history.
