Wasn't always the case. Manhattan Cable got to know me by voice I 
called so often. The problem was always "in the building wiring." I 
thought it strange they were always able to fix it in the street. 
Time Warner is much different, now that it's all fiber. The problem 
in Manhattan is the sabotage from the competing system. Their 
installers would disconnect assorted Time Warner customers. The 
building finally threw them out.

Occasionally I'd get interference caused by a perfectly tuned length 
of cable or a loose connection. I also lived about 1/2 mile from the 
transmitter sites, on the West Side Highway. I was so close multipath 
was almost as strong as the signal.
