What is the difference with the cultures you mention? I have seen this
recently with WVXU's purchase by WGUC in Cincinnati. The new owners are
much more 'button-down' and 9-5 corporate than WVXU was in an academic
setting. All well and good, just different. The new style is evident on the
air, and I expect it will work as well as the former, more personal style.

The same thing happens in other industries. Batesville Casket bought a
manufacturer that built hand tooled top-of-the-line caskets and closed the
high-end business. Those were the caskets US presidents have been buried
in. There were none to be bought new. A best friend of mine works at a
funeral home here in Cincinnati that owned one for the home's owner to be
buried in. The owner sold it after much persuasion for Ronald Reagan's
burial. So Dutch ended up being buried in a second hand box. True story,
and all because of a corporate takeover.
