In response to Mark, you _can_ finalize a cd-rw, you can also 
un-finalize with the right drive. We do this all the time for our 
airchecks. We have the students get a cd-rw and they can record their 
shifts and then finalize the cd for playback during the review, they 
then un-finalize in the Tascam cdrw2000 and it's ready for more use. I 
even purchased my last boombox based on the ability to play cd-rw's, 
(and sound quality :-) ). Those that will play cd-rw usually have it 
plastered on the case, ...it's a BONUS feature. BTW a study found the 
lowest jitter on most burners at the 2x rate, I only use that for 
personal stuff even though I only have silver ears, ...too many concerts 
in the 70's for golden ears.
I would agree that the best way to solve the Sony issue is use standard 
cd-r's, they're too cheap to bother with another option.
