Engineering VPs? They don't have any engineering VPs anymore. Most of the  
large projects at NBC are outsourced. They have a few real engineers there,  not 
PE types but BSEE types, and they are busy doing other things. There is one  
person responsible for the HDTV part of the picture not sure who is 
responsible  for the NTSC version. NBC doesn't have the staff it once did.
 
The Olympics unit is an autonomous group with about a half dozen or so  
full-time staff members. The equivalent of an Engineering VP is a hands on  guy and 
can operate it as well as design it. 
 
The rest is outsourced and the crews are made up of most of the people they  
have used in the past. Many are retirees.
 
I have seen what you are talking about on my analog set but haven't  seen the 
HD version.
 
They are in the "cruise or crash"mode now.
