I have sat here for four long (and miserable) years now, hoping that
he would try that. They finally sold off the old tower and transmitter
site to an oilfield maintenance company. The old 4-bay antenna was
brought down and I thought nothing of it until a friend called from
Woodward, Oklahoma to tell me an "odd" story about how he had offered to
purchase the old antenna after it was lowered.
According to him, the oilfield company representative insisted that
the old antenna was required to be destroyed before witnesses as a
requirement of the contract that they had signed when they purchased the
old tower. The friend says he asked why that would be an issue. The
answer he claims to have gotten was, "So that no local radio station can
ever use it of part of it, again."
Just for laughs, we rode by and, with a set of binoculars, could see
that the 350' of 1-5/8" line had been sawed into neat little 3 foot
lengths and the antenna bays were sawed into some rather weird looking
segments, as well. These people went to great lengths to (literally)
destroy that antenna!
My question is: have they gone to such great lengths dispose of the
old 3.5kw. McMartin, as well?
Either way, David Rushing has a serious problem and that problem is
this: He co-signed a bank loan (title loan) with the guys who formerly
leased the station. Neither he nor the bank ever bothered to investigate
the license so, they *assumed* that the collateral would be "a radio
station" that could be resold.
As they've done with numerous other businesses in Shamrock, they
allowed a great deal of the loan to be paid off. Then, they issued the
usual "Do not conduct business with..." memos and "forced out" the
Jersey Boys. I was the fly in the ointment as, instead of their
"questionable" (at best) plot, I appeared and offered to pay out the
loan. Well, they didn't want that! They've griped and grumbled for four
years now that they could've sold a "working radio station" for $400k or
more whereas, to simply have the loan pay-out would've netted no PROFIT.
So, we sit here and endure the never-ending attacks and "EDC Memos"
that remind people that the radio station is not to be dealt with as a
business...
Many numerous RICO violations, restrictions of trade and the such but,
no federal agency seems to take an interest. I've been thinking that the
documents at http://www.monsterfm.com/justice/nbc.htm would get us
somewhere as it's not everyday one can prove positively that a BANK is
involved in a criminal conspiracy but, all I get is "If there were any
validity to your claims, your local DA would take action!" I will
usually reply to that with a copy of the picture at
http://www.monsterfm.com/justice/roach.htm and a brief note explaining
that "Our local DA is a bit tied up at the moment and his ASSISTANT in
crime has been promoted to the position of DA with all of the same
interests as he..."
I am now a firm believer that there is no justice in Texas. It seems
to be an "outlaw state" with absolutely no hope of ever reforming into a
civilized society. I get press releases on an almost daily basis telling
me that methamphetamines are (literally) one of the most common
"products" of the area due the local farms use of anhydrous ammonia
making the chemicals so readily available.
Of course, I keep thinking: "If they'd only get the actual drug
dealers out of public office..."
This has now gotten to be more of a drug abuse rant than radio
related. I'll stop with this unless someone asks more of me. Sorry. When
one fights a functioning drug-ring on a day to day basis on a
head-to-head basis, it does tend to preoccupy the thought processes.
We've even had people drive up in the middle of the night and offer to
cut guy-wires because "You ARE that station that's trying to get drugs
out of here, ain't you?"
