[BC] Part 15 Comunity Radio over 802.11a/b/g, anyone ever consider this????

There's an interesting article in the July 05 QST discussing 802.11b/g
performance across long distances, using standard wifi routers and "BBQ
grill" 24 dB antennas at both ends.

With a clear shot, 10 to 12 miles was found to be the practical limit before
timing became a problem.   However, the experimenters did observe a
throughput of 150 kb/s on a 34 mile path!

Seems to me you could easily build a 2.4 GHz short-range RPU by running
Shoutcast server (or similar) software on a laptop and using Winamp or
another favorite MP3 player at the studio.   Just be careful to keep the
line loss between the WiFi cards and external antennas as low as possible.
Even LMR-400 wastes about 6.8 dB/100 ft in that range.
