I was doing an audio proof at (then) WOWW, Naugatuck, CT.
An angry lady called complaining about the loud tones. I calmly
explained that this was an annual FCC requirement and suggested
she turn off her radio. We signed off at midnight. She said she
couldn't turn it off or down, nor could she unplug it! She also said
WICC (Bridgeport) never did these. Now, if her radio was so set
to 1380, how did she know WICC never did an audio proof?
At 98Q (Danbury, CT) we had a woman call our midday jock
asking for the address of the Sears building in Chicago. Sharon
tried to tell her Sears no longer owned the building. This is on
our studio lines so the DJ uses the main mic as a speakerphone.
I stepped up to the mic asking why she wanted to know the Sears
building address. Answer: She wanted to know where to send her
Sears credit card payment! I did take the time to explain how to
place the preprinted address in the cellophane window....
