Many year ago I worked for a radio station theta specialized in giving the
sports scores every hour during the news and a sports scoreboard on the 15
minute and 45 minute mark between music & commercials.

We were one of the few stations that had a Western Union Sports ticker. I
worked a Sunday morning gig and there were a feww Satuarday betters that would
call at 7 AM on Sunday morning wanting me to give them the scores from
Saturdays Baseball or football games to compare to their betting sheets. They
knew we had the service and had broadcast it the evening before.

This guys voice became very familiar to me and he always went down his list
wanting the scores, probably onformation he could get from the Sunday
fishwrapper or he could have got it from our station the night before had he been
listening.

Finally one Sunday I had had it with this guy so I put him on hold and told
him I would transfer him to the sports department. I got together with the
FM jock and he answered the phone "FM Control" and then told him he was sorry
he didin;t have that information but it was broacast last night at 10:15 PM
but let me transfer you to the Sports Department and back to HOLD. Then I
would come back on the phone and say "engineering" no I am sorry I don't have
that info I'll transfer you to sports and hit the hold button, hoping that
he would hang up....then after another 3 to 4 minutes the FM guy would come
back on saying "Traffic department" no sorry we do the program logs here I
don't have the scores let me transfer you to the SPorts Department. again hold
for 3 or 4 minutes. The we would do it until we felt the guy was deperate
and then finally answer' Sports Department" and he would say "SPorts
Department" like is it really you? and would ask for his specific scores from
Saturdays games then I would shuffle a bunch of papers around for another minute
or so and come back and say, " I am sorry the last report was done at 10:15
PM last night and I can't find the copy sheet. Could you call back in about
thirty minutes, I have got to get ready for a sports scoreboard. and Hang
up. After about two weeks, he never called us again and fourtunately he never
called management. Of course they would have know it was a ploy as there
were only two people on duty and probably kicked our buts over it.
