To a limited extent IF fittings were comparably priced, which is most
unlikely.

The problem would be the limited specialized applications and the
expense of adapters/connectors etc. Manufacturing expense would
be high as a function of low volume. The trend is to less variety
and higher manufacturing volume, not the reverse.
Thirty or forty years ago, this might have been a very good idea.
