Then tend to (in my opinion) have lousy service, too much digital echo
in phone conversations.

I can only speak from my own limited experience.  My discipline has
always 
been broadcast, and I was ashamed of the presentation Made by Cricket.
We 
ultimately approved the application, but only because of the fear of 
reprisal due to current state laws regarding coverage protection and 
restraint of trade.  It was very nasty toward the end.
