We have a similar problem as a transmitter manufacturer. Continental
Electronics is celebrating 60 years of building transmitters this year. The
company was an outgrowth of the consulting firm of Weldon & Carr and of the
experiences of Mr. James O. Weldon in the '30's of working with Bill Douherity at
Bell Labs, (Western Electric Broadcast) and later as CE for Dr. Brinkley of
XERA, the first 500 kW. Border Blaster.
Continental has designed and built some of the most powerful transmitters in
the world. Some being broadcast, some scientific, some radar and shortwave.
Very little of the history is documented. I have been trying to get a
former Continental engineer to try to correlate this information and write a book
about CE's history. Especially several of the historical cold war things
suck as VOA, RFE and Radio Liberty.
There is a book about Art Collins and Collins RAdio Company which Barry
reviewed some time back which was very informative to me an x-Collins Broadcast
employee. There was a lot of history in that book.
OH Well
Dave
