Was it a kit, or did you design the entire ckt fron scratch? I can't remember
the 1'st radio I built or fixed... there've just been far too many in the
interim. :)
I do remember the super-soup-up job I did to the one we had to assemble (on a
breadboard type system) in Electronics Shop in my high School, though. I
added another IF stage and another audio stage. It was picking up a Buffalo NY
station loud and clear in the middle of the day (We're in Southern CT) and was
capable of cranking out 55 watts (peak) of glorious monaural audio. ;)

I was fortunate to have a station at 540 and one at 1600. Both weak, and
perfect for alignment. Still have them, but the 540 is a bit stronger. (Power
increase.) I also have a TIS about 2 miles away, on 1670, that makes an excellent
alignment source. I also have a nice surplus digital RF gen.
