Same killer signal, provided by 200 degree towers, sending its signal NNW
and SSE, only, nights. ND days.
Both the West and East coasts have Class A stations on 1090, which
provide mutual protection, so it has been possible to drop-in flea-power
stations between Baltimore and Little Rock, and between Tiajuana and
Little Rock.
The 1090 flamethrower in Seattle is a Class B, and even its 50 kW in the
Pacific Northwest's very poor ground doesn't allow such a signal to go
far. Essentually, its signal is constrained to the salt-water areas of
Puget Sound. Doesn't help that there's a full-power station on 1080 in
Portland, about 100 miles away.
In fact, the ground is so bad up there that is is possible to have two
co-channel Class Bs which are about 40 miles apart, and two full-power
co-channel Class Bs (one of which is a "legacy" station operating 5 kW
ND-U) which are less than 120 miles apart.
