My reaction has been.. until the price point gets to about "free" there
will be no interest.
XM and Sirious run recurring offers where the hardware is free, or
minimal cost ($20). Plus a subscription. So you pay $12/month. You get
100 or so channels, everywhere you go. Oh, and your subscription includes
in - office, on PC listening - so they've made that super - easy for
folks to do.
Pay, what, $300 now for the lowest cost HD, and gain, what, 12 best case
HD2 signals? (I'm not counting the main HD because the listenter already
gets that - so it's nothing "new" except digital vs analog, and in
reality, the quality is approximately the same).
Further, no portable solution exists for HD. Except the Radio Flyer :-)
I see it all as much ado about nothing. By the time HD radios get to even
$50 there will be minimal interest. And watch out if some smart engineer
combines a non-crippled Itunes officially licensed phone and an xm /
satellite direct receiver. That thing would sell like the proverbial
hotcakes. (The Rokr is a yawner for any IPOD affectionando. 100 songs?!
This artificial limit (regardless of available storage) makes the Rokr a
no-sale for most folks).
