[BC] Old 2500 WE Telephone...

CLEC means Competitive local exchange carrier. They are the ones that were
SUPPOSED to compete with the Bells b4 the FCC neutered the laws.
Covad is a CLEC for example.
Remote terminals ("stingers") are fiber or T1 fed and are used to either/both
allow Internet and phone service at greater distances then normal CO distance,
and increase capacity. For example, many remote terminals employ Pair Gain
technology, where a single T-1 loop (two pairs) is used to service 24
households with POTS. I used to be on Pair Gain equipment and it worked well -
except that the maximum modem data rate you could get was 33.6 K.
Many remote DSLAMS are fed Internet with a single T-1, which limits speeds to
1500 K.

Agreed...
The telco's are increasing use of remote terminals (CLEC???) to convert
circuits fed by fiber to copper at greater distanced from the CO. We have one
of those powering our house. It frees up copper closer to the CO where
running fiber can be really costly to operate.
So the result is when power feeding those goes down for more than 24 hours,
EVERYTHING fed from them...including copper...fails as well.
This is but one issue to consider when looking for new studio and transmitter
locations if you are not a major building in a centrally located area. It's
not information the telco will readily provide unless they are pressed. It's
a known weak link in the system.

The other side of that is that the copper coming into our building
