[BC] tube sound (tube transmitters)

What Kent doesn't understand is the savings in electric and tubes.  DO
THE MATH. In one year, after buying tubes and the getting the electric
bill, I save more then enough money that would be going out in a tube
rig. I've gone from paying an AC bill of 450.00 with my Collins 20V-3 to
150.00 per month using the Armstrong Transmitter. Bear in mind, my
studios are with the transmitter. I got sick and tired every 6 to 8
months, buying a set of 4 each, 4-400 tubes, 807's, 6SJ6's, etc.  It
made no sense. I thought the power company and the guy I was buying
tubes from were coming out ahead more than me!
I know of an AM station in this market, that brings in over 300 grand a
year, low overhead, and is still using a Gates BC-1T. The owner is stuck
in the past, and won't give in.  He can afford to buy 2 SS, 1 KW, boxes,
and come out WAY AHEAD!
Its o.k. for hobbyist, hams, etc, to play with the old tube beast, and
yes that would be fun, but for 24/7 use, no way!

For a full time 1 kW AM station (even a low power one running their main

all night), the savings in electricity at current rates more then covers
the
lease payments for a SS transmitter.
Unless you believe that electric rates are going to take a dive, this is
the
way to go...

Lets see... old tube transmitter running fine.... New SS transmitter 
thousands of dollars.  AM station barely covering its electrical 
bills...... Me thinks a tube transmitter will do just fine thank you.  
You may be surprised how many tube transmitters are out there!  Yes yes 
I am aware of the efficiency of a SS versus a tube rig.

If tubes are for hobbyists, then why are the likes of Continental coming

out with brand new HD FM transmitters with tubes (which I just took 
receipt of two of them)?
