[BC] Bell Labs building to be demolished

But what does that have to do with whether or not
they re-use the building that the labs were in?

The labs are gone. All there is, and all that is being
discussed, is the BUILDING that the labs used to be
in.

It is a shame that the labs are gone. In days past,
they were a premier place to work, and the technology
that it produced touches each and every one of us
daily.

But, it is still just the building that is being torn down now,
not the old lab organization. The labs could exist anywhere (almost)

Of course it does!
The FACT that Bell Labs no longer exists is systemic of the attitudes
prevalent in the country regarding research.

The bean counters want NO PART of research!! Why? They see NO BENEFIT to it.
They see it as a COST CENTER!

In other words, it is don't help next quarter's "guidance". then we don't
NEED
IT!!

The United States is fast becoming a follower! We no longer are a research
leader (except perhaps in drugs, though based on all the drugs lately pulled
from the maarket lately, we seem to be cutting corners in THAT research as
well).
