ABC Radio was set up that way until they went onto the bird in the
1970s. If the engineer in New York put the audio from Washington in
cue, they'd hear the New York-originated programming delayed by about
3-4 seconds. At that point only NY, Chicago and Washington could break
the loop to originate programming. The main trunk from Chicago to LA
was reversible for left-coast originations.
