[BC] Signoff Question

It makes more sense to me that you would NOT be required to ID the STL
during off times because you are not "TRANSMITTING PROGRAM MATERIAL OR
INFORMATION"... That part seems pretty clear.

Subject: Re: [BC] Signoff Question

Here's the rule from Harold's copy...

http://www.hallikainen.com/FccRules/2008/74/582/

(a) Each aural broadcast STL or intercity relay station, when transmitting
program material or information shall transmit station identification
at the
beginning and end of each period of operation, and hourly, as close
to the
hour as feasible, at a natural break in program offerings by one of the
   following means:

*(1) Transmission of its own call sign by aural means* or by automatic
   transmission of international Morse telegraphy.

 * (2) Aural transmission of the call sign of the radio broadcast
station with
which it is licensed as an STL or intercity relay station.
*

So, theoretically, the STL's ID is covered by the main ID, although
there's no prohibition from using more than one method of identifying...

Other question is, since the main station is off-air, do they actually
shut off the STL, or do they have a "cueless" cart running an ID loop,
or what? remember, the STL still has to ID every hour, even if the main
station is off...

TV stations that sign off generally put up bars-and-tone, with the STL
call supered over the bars somewhere mid-picture; obviously, that
wouldn't work for an aural STL.
