>The RCA 50E installed at WCAU in 1941 was plate modulated. 

The 50E and 50F were both plate modulated.

The 50E could be considered a pre-war model. The 50F could be considered 
a post-war model, as most marketing, and early installations of the 50F 
began in about 1947.

There were some dual 50F installations, as there were dual other 
installations, although a dual 50F installation is absolutely HUGE, with 
a separate blower room and a separate transformer vault for each 50F.

WGAR, an original 50F installation, eventually became a dual 50F 
installation, after acquiring WBAP's 50F.

The 50F will be remembered as a studio "prop" for a recent Fox TV Sci-Fi 
show where the characters were filmed entering and leaving the 50Fs 
cabinetry, which is apparently now just a architectural piece and not a 
real transmitter.

This was filmed at KMPC (now KSPN) last year, although all that was 
retained of the Tx site's exterior was the original lettering "***** 
50,000 Watt Station *****".

The stars (shown as asterisks, above) relates to the station's original 
moniker, "KMPC - The Station of the Stars".
