((This is going to be a silly question, but why would you not feed Dish
and DirecTV out of your studios? )) 

 In certain markets E* and D* will co-locate their receive facilities
 with a local studio or transmit site.
 But usually not both companies. The 'lucky' location gets the direct feed option.

 The other company has to receive all the other sigs OTA.
 In many markets there is NO co-locations, and the D* and E* sites are somewhere 
 convenient for them to hit a fiber feed.
