I have a Garmin Streetpilot Colormap. It has to be 8 or 10 years
old. A friend has the same unit. He downloaded new base maps and
some firmware upgrades. He modernized both units.
I haven't bought any new detailed maps for a number of years, but I
could if I want. Since it doesn't do automatic routing, I don't see
the point. Also, I can only install two detailed map areas at a time
(on one memory stick) so I figure it is OK to let it get old, and use
newer units.
It has been some time, but I have even phoned Garmin for help. They
did. I don't think their phone support is as good as TomTom, but the
new units and the traffic is better.
Garmin is not nearly as Mac friendly though.
