One thing I just remembered about the noise factor...

In a pinch, if you have a noisy card, establish a base line for it, and take
it out.

  I'm learning Adobe.  In there is a function for noise filters.  Run a
record of several seconds with no input... and you should get the 'system
noise' on your recorder.
Select it all, save it as a sample in their *.fft noise reduction fiilters.
See if you can record some stuff, and apply the noise reduction filter you
just made with any luck.

  It works for live sound stuff ok, I suppose it's worth a try for on-air
stuff. .  sure, there'll be adifference, but maybe with some tweaking on
stuff you can get what you want...
