Tom,

I am on a slight elevation, maybe 20 feet above the rest of the air
immediately in front of me. The translator antenna is on top of a water
tower on a bigger hill. There is nothing between me and the translator
antenna but trees and houses.. mind you, the translator antenna is well
above the treeline... my antenna for picking up signals isnt. Actually, when
my cable was disconnected, the coax going from my TV to the wall was left
intact.. I didn't do anything. Yet, when I plug in a regular ole stick
antenna, I get far less signal.

Here, to see the distance check this on googlemaps: 41-36-0 N 98-56-0 W (*NAD
27*) to Rolling Hills Terrace, Ord Nebraska. The translator is about 500
feet SW of where googlemaps says it is, just off S 20th.. that big white
circle? Thats the town water tower. Im in that L Shaped building with a tan
roof.

The distance between the originating station (KGIN 11, 315KW/308 meters)
located here: 40-35-20 N 98-48-10 W is about 70 miles from KGIN to the
Channel 4 transmitter site.

There is no water path to me, unless the water IN the water tower heating up
during the day has SOMETHING to do with it. I believe the sun sets in the
general direction of the translator from me. It's not overly dry here or
overly wet.

Now, at 5:30am, the picture went to crap for a few minutes.. and is
perfectly watchable now

I really tend to think it's something with the translator, simply ebcause
the town has never taken care of the set-ups as far as I know

Probably what you had for lunch...

(Sorry, couldn't resist...<GRIN>)

Serious side; where are you in relation to the tx? Over water or dry
desert? Upsun or not?

Because it sounds like thermal induced multipath... somewhere.
