That's what happened to me when I moved from a 3 phase site to another
one to accommodate a city of license change and downgrade. Had an
Armstrong 10kw rig, which was originally set up for 3 phase when
ordered, since that's what we had at the old site. The cost to overhaul
the tx would have been prohibitive. Oncor (the area utility company in
North Texas) wanted 14k up front to bring in 3 phase to the site. I said
no, and bought a used Kay T4000 from a retired broadcaster for 1k. Took
some cleaning up, but so far, so good. Runs well. I can't say anything
for the power bill (it's high down here) but the tx is happy and runs.
When the transmitter site's happy, everyone's happy.
