As a listener, in this area I may actually get frustrated with the amount of
local sports on commercial radio (esp AM but also FM these days). We're
talking small-town midwest; MN/IA border area. I may want to hear some Fox
Sports radio but they'll preempt for some podunk high school I don't care
about. Usually the guys doing the pbp and color aren't exactly the cream of
the crop either.

As a radio guy I appreciate the fact that the station is trying to serve its
community of license and make a few bucks in the process. One of my church
friends is an owner in Estherville, IA and he does all the good
old-fashioned stuff. Lost dog reports, high school sports, community
bulletin board, etc. He also carries Iowa Hawkeye sports which is quite a
draw in his area of North Iowa.

I'd have to say I agree that local radio is not dead in small-town America.
