Nothing seems to be more confusing than the new XDS receivers!
I've made a partial transition on my stations so far. Here are some helpful
tips:
1. First, the relay commons are NOT connected! If you look at the relay
connector page in the manual, you will see that each relay has an "A" and a
"B" contact. The only way these will be connected to other relays is if YOU
connect them.
2. The new XDS receivers are designed to feed ONE station's programming out
of each audio port. If you have more than one station, there will be one
port for each station. These are designated in the setup, and you can see
which is which when you log on with the Web interface.
3. Knowing that, you can simplify your relay programming by using just a few
of the relays for your entire program lineup. For instance, every program
likely has a "Start Spot Block" relay. You can program ONE relay with up to
8 separate functions. So put ALL the "Start Spot" relays on ONE relay.
There's a handy-dandy code list you can refer to for the individual relay
codes. Likewise, you can put ALL the "Liner A" cues on just one relay.
Likewise "LINER B". If your automation system sets up each program with its
own set of liners, you're good to go. So from now on, ALL your programs for
each station will take up just ONE audio source or input, and ONE set of
relays for spots, liners, etc.
If your automation doesn't set up programs that way, then you can use the
rest of the relays for individual liners.
4. For multiple stations, use other relays and set them up the same way, for
Spot Block and Liner cues. This keeps the stations' relays and triggers
separate from each other.
