Certainly didn't intend to dispute you, Jim, but rather Imus.  (If 
indeed it even originated with him).

My guess is his minions picked up on loose engineering talk about how 
the 317 sounded better, and an urban legend was born that the MW50 was 
no good.  Certainly not the case.  That MW was one of the good ones, 
always worked and sounded just fine.

Never burned up, either!
