[BC] HD receiver available at J&R

Robert,

While I have not personally tried to actually buy
one of these radios, I know of someone on
another list who says he has had one on back-order
for several months, the very set of which I speak.
He works in a radio station in K-country (not W-
country).

My comment yesterday was as much about the
publicizing the availability of the set, as anything.
I am sure that people on this list who for the
most part have a vested interest in the subject
of HD receiver availability, have been aware of the
set for some time. I, myself, last summer,
referenced here a Times article that showcased
several such planned products, but which were
not then available to the average consumer to
purchase. This was the first such ad I had ever
seen that met that important criteria.

I tried to look at it from the standpoint of the
average consumer, starting out with little or
no knowledge of the subject of HD radio
receiver availability. What kind of advert would
be needed to create the impression in the
mind of the average consumer, that there is
now such a thing on the market? (Again,
this is not about BC list readers who are
_looking_ for this info, or are pre-disposed
to see its significance, in an advert).

In Today's NYTimes there is a half page ad for
Tivoli which prominently showcases six attractive
radio products, none of which show any mention
of HD technology.

The J&R ad, yesterday, is interesting, in the
context of the _average_consumer_, looking to
buy "any" new radio. The BA product panel,
one out of fifty-seven such product panels
(on the J&R fullpage ad) measures exactly 1.35
by 1.55 inches. This is not exactly ground-
breaking ad copy for a product some marketers
say is ground-breaking technology.

What part of bringing this new technology
to market - in the eyes of the average
consumer - is it that I am missing here?

So far as I can see, HD for radio is lost
in the din of noise about Ipod/MP3/Sirius-XM
etc and what I saw yesterday is just
continuing that. Maybe that is part of the
plan. Is the rollout now set for Christmas
of 2006?
