[BC] Disaster preparedness

Well, I sit corrected. I guess "air raid" sirens are still in use
in some of the bigger places. Some years back the Sirens were all being
removed from where I lived at the time, (Either Colorado Springs or Tucson I
forget which) The Emergency management guys said that they were only good
for a couple of blocks, couldn't be heard inside with Air conditioning and
TV's going and were poorly maintained. A number were just abandoned in
place since they didn't have the money to take them down.
When I was in High School in a little town of 10,000 outside
Buffalo, NY (Alden) the sirens were also used to alert the VFD. Back in the
50-and early 60's things like pagers and Plectrons were not that common.
With all the vehicular electronic Sirens and car alarms I hear in Las Vegas,
I don't know if anyone would pay attention to "air raid" sirens. We get
more attention from the Big electronic signs on the casinos at least if your
in the Tourist areas.
