In your case, Larry, there may have been the fear by some that you were a
danger to them in that you were way more knowledgeable and qualified than
they were..........

Since selling my Mississippi stations and "retiring" to Las Vegas over two
years ago,
I've been intrigued enough to apply for two jobs locally, both in radio. In
both
cases, I never even got an acknowledgment from the stations. I finally
managed to
get the GM of one to take my call, but he was rude and just brushed me off.
At the
other station, I was never able to talk to anyone but a lowly HR person, who
said
"we have your resume and somebody will get back to you." Of course, nobody
ever
did. In both cases, I was immensely qualified for the job, but they never
even
bothered to talk to me before hiring someone. When I was running my
stations, I
took the time to talk to everyone who expressed an interest in working for
me,
and people with previous broadcast experience, especially management and/or
ownership experience, went to the head of the line. Unfortunately, in
today's
corporate radio, most of the people involved have absolutely no people
skills
and they treat everyone with an equal amount of disdain. It's sad that our
industry has come to this.
