Ok, how many of you have been fool enough to go out in the cold (it got
up to -3F here today) and either make or modify antennas to receive the SAQ
test transmissions Sunday?
And if so, what are you using, or what did you construct? All I did was
to use an old audio transformer with 65ohm and 7ohm windings, run a 1000pf
cap in series with the 65ohm (82mH) winding, and connect the secondary to
the coax going into the house. Too dang cold to do it right, the chassis is
grounded with a vise-grip to the copper strap. Antenna is 37' fiberglass
vertical (ships HF antenna). I plan on using an old TELCO TTS for the
receiver, and expect to hear.....noise. But, it's always worth an
experiment.
