[BC] Goodbye Local Radio-pass me the Kleenex

I'm not all that old (50), but it's nice to have a career that spans several
decades.
Those from the earlier generations wouldn't believe the changes that have
come along...those from the later ones wouldn't believe how primitive the old
ways seem in retrospect, yet how comfortable we were with them.

If you've been part of several generations, you can see the both the positive
and the negative in each.

I liked how it was possible to hand-craft a radio station. The down side was
that in many cases you HAD to hand craft, or have nothing at all.

The down side of reducing onerous logging (and engineering) requirements is
that, in many cases, trends in performance are not tracked. But the equipment
is much more reliable, so performance tracking is less important.

and so on...

Kind Regards,
David

Yes, it's sad. The industry I grew up in has changed so dramatically,
it's astounding. And it's not the technological advances. It's the
business itself. Years ago the landscape was dotted with broadcasters
who were business people (people), now it's business people
(corporations with stockholders demanding absurd dividends) who happen
to own hundreds of broadcast stations. Profit comes first, dividends
second, then service to a community somewhere down the list. I'm
fortunate to have experienced what I have, the future passes me by each
day. I'm a dinosaur. But we played the hits, had genuine fun without
offending, and actually provided a service. Today, it's a license to
print money......screw the public, but don't mess with the stockholders.
Should have gone to law school. Instead I was a radio guy.
Now I think I'll have my milk and cookies and go to bed.....
