g is backwards compatible with b, so get a USB b device. I use the 
Linksys WUSB11 adapter connected with a wireless g router. It's still 
faster than your Internet connection. It updates everything in seconds.

Yes. They tell me the update will allow the modem to try much slower 
speeds than it does. The didn't say when the update will be ready but 
it'll automatically be downloaded to your machine.
