And when there's a failure of something in the SS box,
and the parts take TIME to get there...well they can
be OFF the air.

It's not hard to maintain a BC-1G or the BTA 1R
series. It does take more effort than a SS box
however, and running one is certainly more expensive. 
The one at WKDK is meticulously maintained.  A good
sound makes money a lot easier to make on a stand
alone AM.
