[BC] Vonage (etc) vs copper dial line

I have had FIOS for the last couple years. It works well, but DSL was a
better bargain in my opinion. Once you get past your first year, they
really up the rate you pay for it. In our area, Verizon has to keep dial
tone on a dead copper pair going to each house because of the requirement to
access 911 from any phone. VOIP phones work well on FIOS. Their TV is
excellent. And yes, if you convert to FIOS, then they will not reconnect
the copper. The box they mount on the outside wall of the house really
generates a lot of RF garbage all over the AM broadcast band.

Neither have I, but I still have a couple "just in case". Just-in-case
just hasn't happened here (yet).

What is FIOS? This sounds something akin to when TELCO removed all our
dry lines in favor of fiber a while back. A scramble to see what electronic
magic box would replace all the copper transmitter links. As it turned out
CC
consolidation of 6 stations into one building and STLs solved that problem.

Dave Dunsmoor - It's +14 out so I'm going for a walk to get a Starbucks...
