Except that Obama has been extremely consistent on his position: he
stated during the campaign that he was opposed to a return of the
Fairness Doctrine, he stated during the transition that he was opposed
to a return of the Fairness Doctrine, and he hasn't, from all evidence,
budged from that view.

Whatever pressure exists for a return of the FD, to whatever extent it
really exists, is coming from the other end of the Mall.

The more interesting regulatory crystal-balling, from where I sit,
anyway, is the prospect of the first FCC in history for which
broadcasting is at best a secondary priority. All indications so far are
that Genachowski, if and when he's actually officially nominated as
chairman, is focused first and foremost on internet issues. If I were a
broadcast licensee, I'd be more concerned about THAT, at this point,
than about the FD.
