I've had the unhappy experience of having our property landlord, or some of his guests, taking shots at our tower, and putting a bullet through our main antenna heliax.

This particular tower is at the end of a dead-end road. Residents own the property, we own the tower and Tx building.

They're pretty good neighbors, but one time they had some visitors who were demonstrating their rifles. Apparently one of them took aim at our tower for a target.

The hole let rain water run into the line, which collected in a horizontal run of rigid coax between the transmitter and the tower. Eventually enough collected to short out the center conductor.

A tower crew found the bullet hole. By sighting through the hole, he found the bullet originated in front of the landlord's house. The hole was patched, and he took apart the elbow and the coax end fitting at the bottom of the coax run, and he found the bullet resting on top of the teflon spacer. A .22 slug, badly mangled.

We had a few words with the landlord (polite ones), and he agreed to watch where people would be shooting firearms on his property.
